The 30-second spot is the epitome of creative atrophy.
Consumer Generated Content (CGC) is not the same as Agencies Creating What They Think is Consumer Generated Content (ACWTTICGC).
Commercials therefore will still exist, except….
– there are a lot less of them,
– their length will be determined by consumers
– The creative product by default will inevitable improve.
– Rates will rise, but in no way will offset the loss in revenue
People will not watch content your way
anymore…and they will not be forced to
watch advertising either.
Get out the advertising game (while there’s still time).
"When consumers view advertising as content everyone wins."
This spot has three significant problems, one of which is a favorite of this advertising blog.En opnieuw verwijs ik hier naar KBC en haar Bankseeing Tour, die net in dezelfde valkuil gevallen is. Ik val in herhaling, en dat zal vrees ik niet de laatste keer zijn.
- Positioning Ownability - The most significant problem with this spot is the same as for the Easy button campaign in general. It promotes a category benefit. Organizing an office, making a business simpler to supply and run is something that office supply stores all do. If there is anything unique in the service Staples provides, we don't learn about it from these spots.
- Positioning Linkage - More so than the rest of the campaign, this spot has a very tenuous link to the positioning against business problems. How does the Mongolian invasion relate to your business supply needs? In the real world Staples (via the metaphorical Easy button) won't help against Mongols but will help your business. This is a very tenuous link. This commercial really relies on impressive visuals, special effects and humor. [...]
Commercials are a part of our lives. We watch them, enjoy them, and discuss them with our friends. Do commercials make us buy the product they advertise? Nobody really knows.Iacoboni lost alvast het neurologische stukje van de puzzel op.
